A failed convention, phony impressions, and leaked badvox.
#1. DashCon Disaster
Everything you need to know about this #epicfail can be found in this post from Jezebel. Reporters on the scene from The Geekiary also provided some great coverage of the Welcome to Night Vale walkout.
#2. 29 Fauxpressions
Here’s the original video:
Here’s the reveal:
And here’s a better video that’s actually worth your time — Brock Baker’s 151 Pokemon Impressions.
#3. Britney Without Autotune
Meh, whatever. Without further ado, and in rough yet non-definitive order, here is Alpine’s List of the Twenty Best Britney Spears Songs:
- “Baby One More Time”
- “I Wanna Go”
- “Scream & Shout”
- “Till The World Ends”
- “Piece of Me”
- “You Drive Me Crazy”
- “Oops! I Did It Again”
- “I’m A Slave 4 U”
- “Work Bitch”
- “I’m Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman”
- “Gimme More”
- “Hold It Against Me”
Musical Guest: POPCAAN
On this episode we are playing clips from, HEAVILY promoting and encouraging you to buy the new Popcaan album, Where We Come From. A mere $9.99 from Mixpak Records!
But you don’t have to take our word for it — here’s what Pitchfork said: “The best dancehall album of the year so far is also, interestingly, one of the best pop albums of the year…Where We Come From is a party, and everyone’s invited.”
No summer jam will be complete without these amazing riddims, produced by 3x musical guest and FOTI’s favorite dance hall producer — Dre Skull.
Internet Challenge Surprise!
Ah, for the naive days of government-funded LSD experimentation on squares…
Thanks to Liker Isabel, we discovered this AMAZING webseries and are now completely smitten.
High Maintenance is the brainchild of by husband-and-wife team Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfeld, along with producer Russell Gregory. It’s unquestionably one of the greatest things on the Internet right now.
Every episode features Sinclair as weed delivery man anonymously known as “The Guy,” but each episode features unique characters, approaches and tones. Some eps are hilarious, some are heartwarming, some are creepy, some are sad. A few of our favorites:
- QASIM, a tale of obsession with self-improvement;
- JAMIE, a tale of comedic domestic horror;
- RACHEL, a tale of inner struggle;
- and MATILDA, a tale about The Guy and his niece.
Shoutout to the Likers!
Every episode has its heroes. These are the legends of Episode 55…
#5. Liker RJ helped us cool off from the summer heat with a Wes Anderson-inspired surf film called “De Passage.” Watching it feels transportive, borderline meditative, and a little like the old American Eagle videos that Alison fantasized about being part of.
#4. Liker Erinn D. not only pointed us to the 29 Celebrity Impressions video before it became apparent this was another case of NEVER TRUST AN INTERNET, but also pointed OUT, that some of the impreshes within weren’t all THAT stellar. Discerning crowd, our Likers – and that’s part of why we love you.
#3. Liker and Past Guest Mark C. gave us a chuckle with something from the Screamer section of Deadspin: a video that mashes up World Cup winner Germany’s 7-1 trouncing of host Brazil with some of the craziest announcing work of legendary wrestling personality “J.R.” Jim Ross to all the goal calls.
#2. Not to be outdone, Mark C.’s brother Liker Neil C. forced us to tear up our gameplan at the last minute with his breaking coverage of DashCon.
And the Liker of the Fortnight is Liker Isabel!!! Without her we never would have found High Maintenance, our new favorite thing on the Internet. Thank you Liker Isabel for being the best!
That’s our show — see you in two weeks!
Special thanks to Dre Skull and Mixpak Records for musical assistance.
Theme songs by Snowplows and Motern Media.
