She Wasn’t A Wonderful Wife!

No doubt many of you spent a portion of your holiday season watching the Frank Capra classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
There are so many things to like about this film, but after hundreds of viewings the subtle moments are really the most enjoyable.
Take, for instance, the awesome ad lib by Thomas Mitchell, playing screw-up Uncle Billy, who wanderes off camera “drunkenly” in one scene. As he made his exit, Mitchell crashed into a prop table creating a massive racket…then completely saved the take by yelling “I’m all right!” as Jimmy Stewart cracked up on camera.
We’ve always been partial to the scenes involving town floozy Violet, played by Gloria Grahame. Like the time when she stops traffic crossing the street and evokes a loud “AHWOOOGA” from a car horn!
She was hot, no doubt about it. Turns out, however, that her morals were incredibly suspect.
This super sleazy pseudo-blind item from CRAZY DAYS AND NIGHTS titillates:
This one is out there for you to discover. I just thought you might have fun trying to dig this one up because it does have a holiday connection and it has some pseudo incest which I know is always intriguing.
What we have here is an actress who was definitely considered A list at the height of her fame. Academy Award nominated and in one of the most popular films of all time. Has a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Married to a director who, although, not as big as his actress wife, still happened to direct one of the most famous films of all time. Our director had been previously married and had children from that marriage. One of those children was a son. Well things happen as they say and the step mom actress and her step son just could not control what happened and eventually wound up in bed together. One day, the dad/husband/director came home to find his son and his wife having, umm relations. Well it turns out that the wife during the course of this marriage had children both from her director husband and also from her stepson.
And as a bio at Turner Classic Movies confirms, Ms. Grahame, an Academy Award nominee for “The Bad and the Beautiful,” was married to Nicholas Ray, the director of “Rebel Without A Cause.”
She later married his son Tony (her former stepson) and “Gloria ended up having children by both father and son.”
All together now: Grrrrrroooooooooooooooooossssssssssssssss!
“Marry me, George. But I must warn you, I’ve taken a liking to that little vixen Zuzu.”
All of this should profoundly skeeve you out when you watch the movie again and see the scene where young Violet and young Mary sit at the soda fountain, both making eyes at young George.
Violet says, “I like him.” Mary replies, “You like every boy.”
Violet retorts, “What’s wrong with that?”
Doing your stepson is what’s wrong with that!!
We look forward to digging up gross details that will ruin more of your favorite movies in future posts. Stay tuned for the horrible truth about the Tin Man.
