This Month in GIF [February 2011]
March 2, 2011 7 Comments
Narrowing this list down gets harder every month. GIF mania is overtaking the Internet and there is no way to stop it. Even in a short month like February, this post could have been three times as long.
This month, C. Dave sent me his best collection yet. But in the meantime, I’d secretly been assembling a GIF stockpile of my own. And at the last minute, a surprise contributor turned in one of the finest GIFs I’ve yet seen.
Our powers combine to bring you the greatest and best GIFs of February, 2011…

For our final GIF, let’s turn things over to a new contributor!
GoGoMrPoPo sent in this classic clip of one of the icons of dance. May his grooves inspire you the next time you hit the dance floor.
Reminds me of those emails you get from distant relatives filled with funny pictures of cats and jazzed up with all kinds of wacky html fonts. The *animated* gif, a hem, is so retro it makes me sick.
… sick because of how long ago that was, and how old that makes me. Nothing to do with the hilarity of these particular moving images.
Animated kinda goes without saying, doesn’t it? GIF is a pretty limited format when compared to JPEG. It would have died out long ago if not for its powers of animation.
Eh. Gifs weren’t animated at first, and for quite some time the animated variety weren’t all that common. The static variety were very common, especially if you were a teenage male with a modest amount of computer savvy. Why am I more ashamed to admit that I can actually remember when they were first being animated, than I am admitting to having had collection of gifs? But you’re right. The gif would be nothing but a memory had it not been given the gift of motion
All I’m saying is that “This month in gif” would have looked quite different in 1994 than it does today.
