The One With The Tastiest Jams [Facebook Roundup Weekend]

I haven’t done Facebook Roundups in a few months, so I’m compiling the best items from the ROTI Facebook Page into a series of posts for this weekend.

This is the second entry, packed full of amazing tunes. Turn your volume up and brace yourself for the tastiness.

Let’s open things up with a little Bowie. You can never go wrong with Bowie.

Our operative known as Serious Nihilism recommended this video from Fang Island, straight out of Providence. The joy is infectious.

Belle and Sebastian’s early stuff never gets old for me.

Lou Reed’s recent guest spot with Gorillaz. Helps cleanse the palate after you see that embarrassing HP commercial.

I recently went on a massive Tusk binge. This might be my favorite song on the album, although this is a pretty close second.

And speaking of Tusk, which really is an insanely good album, check out this superb cover of “Walk a Thin Line” that Mick Fleetwood did with George Harrison and African sidemen.

“Night Moves” has always been a favorite. But did you know that the video featured a young Matt LeBlanc and Daphne Zuniga?

John McLaughlin and his Mahavishnu Orchestra in full effect. Billy Cobham destroys with his drumming on this. I think this should be broadcast into space 24/7 so whatever species are out there will acknowledge their human overlords long before we actually show up.

Someone made a video of Joy Division’s “Transmission” entirely with Playmobil in stop motion. I like this guy’s style.

My excitement about the biggest Tamil blockbuster of all time, Enthiran, is no secret. Check out this A.R. Rahman musical number and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

I follow Robin Pecknold of Fleet Foxes on Twitter, and that’s how I found out about this video — a home recording of Nick Drake doing “Get Together” by the Youngbloods.

Gerry Rafferty recently passed away. He was best known for his work on “Stuck in the Middle with You,” but I have always loved these two solo tracks:

I wanted to embed 10cc’s Worst Band in the World, but record company ninjas did not allow it. So you’ll be pleased to know I CAN embed the awesome song that samples it, “Workinonit” by J Dilla:

Even more tasty songs that I am blocked from embedding in a blog post:

Nina Simone — Sinnerman
Three Dog Night — Easy to be Hard
The National — Conversation 16 (great video feat. Kristen Schaal and John Slattery)
POTUSA – Sharpen Up Those Fangs (thank you Schmentz)
Mark Ronson feat. Q-Tip & MNDR – Bang Bang Bang
Grass Roots – Temptation Eyes
Animotion — Obsession
TV on the Radio — Wolf Like Me
NMH — Two Headed Boy pt 2
Damian Marley & Nas – Sabali
Kids Incorporated — Billy Don’t Lose My Number
The New Pornographers — Moves (another great video)
Lefty Frizzell — Always Late With Your Kisses

Just like you, man. I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase. All in the game, though, right?
